News Bard's Wild Duck to Feature Dashiell Evans, Tom Bloom and Mary Bacon Dashiell Evans, Tom Bloom and Mary Bacon have been cast in Henrik Ibsen's The Wild Duck, which will be staged as part of the 9th annual Bard SummerScape in July.

Irish director Caitriona McLaughlin will stage the production that will run July 13-24 at Bard College's Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. David Eldridge penned the English translation of Ibsen's classic, which debuted at the Donmar Warehouse in 2005.

Evans (Snow Falling on Cedars) will play Gregers Werle, with Bloom ("The Thomas Crown Affair," Timon of Athens) as Håkon, Bacon (Crimes of the Heart, "Mildred Pierce") as Gina, Peter Maloney ("Requiem for a Dream") as Old Ekdal, Sean Donegan as Hjalmar, Erin Wilhemi as Hedvig, Sean Cullen as Relling, Kristin Griffith as Mrs. Sorby and Sydney Williams as Molvik/Balle.

According to Bard, The Wild Duck "portrays the tragic consequences visited by the truth-seeking impulses of its protagonist – Gregers Werle, the idealistic son of a successful but duplicitous businessman – upon the family of his childhood friend, whose peaceful existence is founded on a tissue of lies. This enables Ibsen to posit the notion that people depend on their illusions to get by: that absolute truth can be too much for the human heart to bear or, as the play’s Dr. Relling would have it, 'Deprive the average man of his vital lie and you rob him of happiness.'"

The production will have costume design by Kaye Voyce, set design by John McDermott, lighting design by Jane Cox, video projection design by Aaron Rhyne and sound design by Ryan Rumery.
