The Barrow Group Theatre Company has announced its 2017–2018 season at its newly renovated theatre space on West 36th Street. The lineup features a New York premiere, a world premiere, and a revival that speaks to today’s political climate.
The season will kick off with the Off-Broadway premiere of Muswell Hill by Torben Betts. Set in London over the course of an evening, the play sees a group of friends at a dinner party; halfway around the world, a natural disaster is taking place. The co-production with The Pond Theatre Company will begin previews November 11 ahead of an official opening November 14. Shannon Patterson will direct.
The season continues with the world premiere of The Thing with Feathers, a new play by Scott Organ, directed by TBG Co-Artistic Director Seth Barrish. “Organ masterfully spins the tale of an underage teenager who is seduced by an older man on the internet. Things are not as they seem, however,” read production notes. Performances will begin January 13, 2018, and run through February 10.
Concluding the season next spring will be a revival of Lee Blessing’s A Walk in the Woods, directed by Donna Jean Fogel. The two-hander, set at the end of the Cold War, recounts a series of meetings between an American and Russian diplomat.
“We’re dedicated to enriching people's lives with productions that emphasize simple, unadorned, natural storytelling,“ comment Barrish and co-artistic director Lee Brock in a statement. “The four plays in our upcoming season are timely meditations on friendship, forgiveness, and the intricacies of human connection.“
The Barrow Group will officially launch its season with a one-night benefit performance of Martin Moran's solo show, The Tricky Part, directed by Barrish, October 16. The Barrow Group Mainstage Theatre is located at 312 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor, New York.
