The season will kick off with New Yiddish Rep's groundbreaking production of Waiting for Godot, which is performed entirely in Yiddish with English supertitles. Presented as part of the 2014 Origin's 1st Irish Festival, performances begin Sept. 4.
The Chicago improv duo TJ & Dave will return to the Barrow Street Theatre for their 10th year, with performances beginning Sept. 11 and continuing through Sept. 14.
Opening on the 39th anniversary of his escape, Riding the Midnight Express with Billy Hayes will open Oct. 2 following previews that begin Sept. 24. Hayes' play tells the true story of his arrest in Istanbul for smuggling hash as well as his escape from prison, during which he rowed 17 miles across the open sea during a nighttime storm.
The Complete & Condensed Stage Directions of Eugene O'Neill Vol. I and Vol. II will be performed in repertory beginning Oct. 28. The productions explore O'Neill's stage directions by removing the dialogue and stripping the plays down to pure action. The puppet show Swamp Juice, by Jeff Achtem, features shadow puppets made from trash in a holiday engagement. The show tells an adventure about life in a swamp, with a 3D finale. Select performances will be presented in tandem with a hands-on workshop sharing some of Achtem's secrets.
