News Baseball Comedy Rounding Third Comes to Bat at San Diego's Old Globe, June 1-July 13 Broadway's Take Me Out isn't the only diamond on the stage as San Diego's Old Globe presents the baseball comedy Rounding Third, June 1-July 13. The production, which opens June 11, plays the Cassius Carter Centre Stage.

Richard Dresser's comedy Rounding Third delves into the world of Little League baseball as a team determined-to-win coach — who happens to be the father of the star pitcher — meets with opposition from his new assistant coach — father of the often last-picked kid — who believes the object of the game is for everyone to have fun. David Petrarca directs Tom McGowan (Chicago, Ivanoff, La Bete) and Jeffrey Hutchinson (Sin, Dinah Was, Harvey) in the two-hander. The design team features Robin Sanford Roberts (scenic), David Cuthbert (lighting), Lewis Brown (costume) and Ron Milburn (sound).

The play, which is expected to make its New York premiere this year, received a staged reading with George Wendt and Mark McKinney in January 2002 then premiered later in the year at Northlight Theatre in Skokie, Illinois with Wendt and Matthew Arkin.
