Classic Arts News   Bashmet and Gutman to Headline Hudson Valley's Classics on the Mountain Festival

The second annual Classics on the Mountain Chamber Music Festival in the Hudson Valley will feature cellist Natalia Gutman, violist Yuri Bashmet, the Moscow Soloists, and pianist/composer Igor Raykhelson.

The festival runs June 20 _24 at the Mohonk Mountain House, a seven-story 19th century castle-style resort in the Shawangunk Mountains.

The lineup includes the premiere of Raykhelson's Small Symphony for Strings and a performance of his Jazz Suite, which had its U.S. premiere at Jazz at Lincoln Center in February. Saxophone virtuoso Igor Butman and his quartet will also perform. The concert lineup includes works by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Schumann, Grieg, Brahms, Paganini, Bartok, Gliere, and Handel.

Gutman, Bashmet, and Raykhelson will perform with the Moscow Soloists, a chamber orchestra.

"Classics on the Mountain Chamber Music Festival provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of the Hudson Valley by day, and music from the world's finest concert halls, in an intimate setting with spectacular views," said festival director Sherri Brittain.

"Yuri Bashmet's artistry has inspired many composers to write for him, myself included," said Raykhelson, the festival's artistic director.
