News Batman and Robin in the Boogie Down to Play Theatre at Stage Left Studio Actress/playwright Juliette Jeffers' new play Batman and Robin in the Boogie Down (From the Bronx … and beyond.) will receive its New York premiere June 16 at The Theatre at Stage Left Studio.

Reggie Rock Bythewood will direct the production, which is scheduled to run through July 11. Playwright Jeffers also stars. The New York production follows runs at Los Angeles' Elephant Theatre, where the play was nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award, and Dallas' African American Theatre Festival. The play follows two siblings (both played by Jeffers), from childhood to the early death of the brother ("Batman") and the attempts by his sister ("Robin") to make peace with his passing. The story is told in flashbacks (including games where the siblings play the title characters) from the points of view of both siblings. Press notes describe the show as "a poignant story of two lives eternally intertwined with a multitude of vibrant characters from their shared past in the Bronx … and beyond."

Jeffers was nominated for a NAACP Theatre Award for Butterscotch and Fudge, part of the Ah Ha Moments series of one-acts at the Complex Theatre. Batman and Robin in the Boogie Down is her first one-woman play; her second, Looking For a Chocolate Match.com, also premiered at the Elephant Theatre in 2008 at the Los Angeles Works Theatre Festival. Film credits include "Play the Game " "The Nobel Son" and "Constellation."

The Theatre at Stage Left Studio is located at 438 W. 37th Street #5A. For tickets call (800) 838-3006 or visit brownpapertickets.com.
