CHICAGO--British playwright Jonathan Harvey will be present for the American premiere--on May 21--of his potent drama Beautiful Thing, which first saw the light of day at London's Bush Theatre. A Donmar Warehouse production in London in 1993 was a recast restaging, and subsequently transferred to the Duke of York's, before it was turned into a warmly-embraced movie.
Debuting here in a staging by Gary Griffin for the Famous Door Theatre, the play captures the awakening love between two male teenagers growing up in southeast London. According to the Sunday Times, "Jonathan Harvey's exactly observed dialogue finds a silver lining of comedy in the brutalised language of everyday speech." For information call 773-404-8283.
