News Beauty and the Beast and Aida Writer Will Pen Screenplay to Disney Blockbuster Linda Woolverton, the librettist for Broadway's Beauty and the Beast, Aida and Lestat, will write the sequel to the Disney blockbuster "Maleficent," according to Deadline.com.

"Maleficent," which featured a screenplay by Woolverton, was financed at $180 million and took in $760 million worldwide. Robert Stromberg directed.

Angelina Jolie starred in the title role of the original film. Although negotiations with the Oscar-nominated actress have not been finalized, the sequel is being written for her.

Joe Roth will again produce.

Woolverton's screen credits include "Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King," "Alice in Wonderland," "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey" and the forthcoming live-action version of "Beauty and the Beast."
