CHICAGO -- On Jan. 29, Victory Gardens Theater presents a different kind of family play when it premieres Before My Eyes, an episodic comedy by Emmy-nominated writer Joel Drake Johnson. The Chicago playwright (author of the much-produced 1950s satire As the Beaver) depicts a gay man's rocky 28-year relationship with his devoted parents, as well as his obsession with Barbra Streisand -- a fixation that verges on worship.
A busy fixture on the Chicago theater scene for many years, Johnson is playwright-in-residence at Chicago Dramatists Workshop.
