The film first debuted in the U.S. at the Sundance Film Festival in January and appeared at the New York Film Festival September 30. It receives a limited release in theatres across the country October 19.

Dano, best known for roles in Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood, makes his film directorial debut with the movie starring stage alums Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor is set to return to Broadway this season in Sam Shepard's True West. The Roundabout Theatre Company revival begins performances December 27 at the American Airlines Theatre. The James Macdonald-helmed production will also feature Ethan Hawke, Marylouise Burke, and Gary Wilmes.

In addition to his upcoming Broadway return, he is set to appearance in the TV mini-series Escape at Dannemora (directed by Ben Stiller).

True West was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and tells the story of two brothers (played by Hawke and Dano) grappling with big questions—and each other—while at their mother’s California home.
