Tenor Ben Heppner will sing the role of Siegfried for the first time in a new production of Wagner's Ring cycle at France's Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Associated Press reports.

The Canadian tenor will appear in Siegfried, the third part of the cycle, starting on June 28, 2008. He will sing the same role in G‹tterd‹mmerung starting on July 3, 2009.

Heppner made his American debut as Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannh‹user at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1988; in 1992 he sang the title role of William Bolcolm's McTeague in its world premiere there. He first sang Lohengrin in 1989, Peter Grimes in 1994, Andrea Ch_nier in 1996, Tristan in 1997, and Aeneas in Berlioz's Les Troyens in 2000.
