Khalidi was awarded the sixth annual Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Competition for the 1939-set work that explores the embattled history of Palestine.
Sacramento Theatre Company artistic director Peggy Shannon helms the production, which will officially open Feb. 3 and run through Feb. 21 on the Hertz Stage.
Tennis in Nablus will feature Andrew Benator, Suehyla El-Attar, Bart Hansard, Joe Knezevich, Jim Sarbh, Tom Thon, Demosthenes Chrysan, Bhavesh Patel and Michael Simpson.
"Set in Nablus in the spring/early summer of 1939, Tennis in Nablus," according to press notes, "brings to life the waning days of an Arab revolt that began in 1936, which almost succeeded in driving the British out of Palestine. It is a genre bending look at Palestine’s embattled status through the eyes of a lifelong rebel, his wife (a writer of anti-colonial tracts) and his enterprising young nephew."
The production team includes Brian Sidney Bembridge (set designer), Anne Kennedy (costume designer), Mike Post (lighting designer) and Clay Benning (sound designer). For tickets phone (404) 733-5000 or visit AllianceTheatre.
