A spokesperson for the production confirmed that Peters and company will record the Jule Styne-Stephen Sondheim score June 22. The CD will be released on the Angel Records label at a later date to be announced.
Both Gypsy and star Peters are nominated for 2003 Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Leading Actress of a Musical, respectively. Tammy Blanchard and John Dossett are also nominated for their roles. The 2003 Tony Awards airs on CBS-TV June 8, 8-11 PM.
Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, this production of Gypsy marks the fourth Broadway mounting of the musical, which was created by Arthur Laurents (book), Styne (music) and Sondheim (lyrics). The production features original choreography by Jerome Robbins and additional choreography by Jerry Mitchell. Jodi Moccia is the associate choreographer and Peter Lawrence the associate director.
