Recording artist Nick Jonas, who will join Broadway's How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2012, will also guest on "Smash." Both Jonas and Peters (currently in Broadway's Follies, and a veteran of Gypsy, Sunday in the Park With George, Song and Dance, Annie Get Your Gun, Into the Woods, Mack and Mabel and more) will sing on the show.
The series, now being shot in New York City, will premiere 10 PM Feb. 6, 2012.
Jonas will reportedly be playing a sitcom star and former child actor. Peters will play Leigh Conroy, mother of Ivy (played by Megan Hilty). Ivy is hoping to win the role of Marilyn Monroe in the new musical being written by Tom (Christian Borle) and Julia (Debra Messing).
The series regulars include Katharine McPhee ("American Idol"), Oscar winner Anjelica Huston ("Prizzi's Honor"), Jack Davenport ("Pirates of the Caribbean"), Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James ("Shrek The Musical"), Jaime Cepero (Porgy and Bess) and Raza Jaffrey.
Playwright Theresa Rebeck (Seminar, Mauritius) penned the pilot and is the show's creator. Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, American Idiot) directed the pilot.
