The second season of "Smash" — the Emmy Award-winning musical drama that has been struggling in TV ratings since its Feb. 5 premiere and will now air on Saturday nights — documents the race to the Tony Awards, which were filmed at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.

"You'll see the race to the Tonys," Krysta Rodriguez previously told Playbill.com. "I can't say, necessarily, if we are going to the Tonys, who's going to the Tonys — we don't know. They keep all of that under wraps, but there is definitely Tony conversation."

According to TVLine.com, confirmed Tony attendees, who will appear as themselves on the season finale of "Smash," include O'Donnell (Grease), Jackson (Xanadu), Ron Rifkin (Cabaret), Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens), Lillias White (The Life), Marin Mazzie (Next to Normal) and director-choreographer Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes).

Although a third season for "Smash" is unlikely, Safran said that the season finale will lay the groundwork for future storylines. "Not everything is wrapped up," Safran said. "But the episode could also serve as a series finale should it need to."
