PlayBlog Bernadette Peters to Read "Stella Is a Star" at P.S. 111 Two-time Tony Award-winning actress Bernadette Peters will read from her new children’s book, “Stella Is a Star,” and perform “Stella’s Song,” which is featured on the audio CD that accompanies the book, at P.S. 111 May 26 at 1:45 PM.

Peters will be appearing as part of New York City’s Learning Leaders Great School Volunteer Work, which “celebrates the vitality of our public schools,” according to press notes.

Peters recently described her new book to Playbill.com: "It's about a pit bull, but no one likes her, so she masquerades as a pig of the highest order. She calls herself 'Princess Pig.’ … It's a great story about not judging people from the outside, and not being afraid to accept and love yourself for who you are."

In addition to her Broadway career (Gypsy, Annie Get Your Gun, Song and Dance, Into the Woods), Peters recently wrote another children’s book, “Broadway Barks,” which also featured a song she penned herself, “Kramer’s Song.” Both of her books feature illustrations by Liz Murphy. Stella and Kramer are both named after dogs the star has adopted. Visit bernadettepeters.com.
