The one-night-only performance produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and benefiting BC/EFA and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York features men performing songs written for women and women performing songs originally written for men.

Newly announced for the evening are Tony Award nominee Michael Berresse, Tony winner Beth Leavel, Tony winner Debra Monk, Ken Page, Tony winner Billy Porter, Tony nominee Andrew Rannells and Tony nominee John Tartaglia as well as the men of the web series "Submissions Only": Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Stephen Bienskie, Colin Hanlon and Max von Essen.

Previously announced for the benefit evening are Bryan Batt, Stephanie J. Block, Len Cariou, Robin De Jesús, Jonathan Groff, Cass Morgan, Patricia Morison, Krysta Rodriguez and Tony Yazbeck. Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Broadway Backwards is described as the "annual celebration where gays and lesbians see their stories told through the great songs of musical theatre, sung by their favorite Broadway performers." Creator Robert Bartley will again direct and choreograph, with additional choreography by Amy Jones and Melissa Rae Mahon. Mary-Mitchell Campbell returns as music supervisor with Tim Rosser as music director.
