Stage and screen actor Bill Heck will play a recurring role on the upcoming CBS series "Elementary," according to Deadline.com.

As previously reported, the project, written by Robert Doherty, is a modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes, who, in this version, resides in New York City. Michael Cuesta will direct.

Heck will play Ty, a handsome old friend of Joan's (Lui) and an up-and-comer in the New York District Attorney's office.

Heck, who has been seen on Broadway in Brooklyn Boy, has also appeared in the Off-Broadway productions of Angels in America, The Orphans' Home Cycle and The Merchant of Venice. Visit his page at the Playbill Vault.

Doherty, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly are executive producers of "Elementary." The series will debut Sept. 27 at 10 PM ET on CBS. Visit CBS.com/Shows/Elementary.
