Wong, who has served as the company's rehearsal director since 1995, will be replacing Bjorn Amelan, who was also the company's creative director. In her new role, she will participate in all artistic decision-making, including programming, casting and training.
Wong studied ballet in Hong Kong and graduated from London's Royal Ballet School, which she attended on scholarship. After performing for eight years with the Berlin Opera Ballet, becoming a soloist in 1990, she moved to New York City. She first performed with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in 1993.
Bill T. Jones said, "As our organization matures on several levels, the cool head, compassionate heart and agile mind of Janet Wong have proven to be an invaluable asset. I am grateful to Janet for her faith in what the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company stands for and for her willingness to be part of its future."
