"The Book of Joel" will be published by HarperCollins and will cover the writing of Joel's many hit songs, as well as his marriage to and divorce from Christie Brinkley (who is soon to appear on Broadway in Chicago) and his experiences with substance abuse and depression.

In addition, "Billy Joel – Live at Shea Stadium," a recording of the concerts Joel gave at the historic New York concert venue in July 2008, will be available on CD, DVD and Blu-ray March 8. The concerts, which were the last to take place in Shea Stadium before its 2009 demolition, will air on "Great Performances" on PBS during the month of March, and will also be available as a CD/DVD set.

The recordings will include Joel's renditions of many of his classic tunes, including "Piano Man," "Keeping the Faith," "We Didn't Start the Fire" and "Only the Good Die Young," as well as duets with Paul McCartney ("I Saw Her Standing There," "Let It Be"), Tony Bennett ("New York State of Mind"), Garth Brooks ("Shameless") and John Mayer ("This Is The Time"). Exclusive DVD/Blu-ray bonus performances will feature duets with Steven Tyler ("Walk This Way"), Roger Daltrey ("My Generation") and John Mellencamp ("Pink Houses").
