Billy Porter has become synonymous with the red carpet thanks to his gender-bending couture garments.
Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Porter said that being political with gender is done through his fashion. “The minute a man puts on a dress, it’s disgusting, so what are you saying?” Porter says. “Men are strong, women are disgusting? I’m not doing that anymore.”
The Kinky Boots Tony winner reviewed his own looks from recent events, before pivoting to discuss the ballroom culture explored in FX's Pose, the groundbreaking television series in which Porter stars. "The show presents what chosen family looks like. And sometimes our biological families are not equipped to love us unconditionally in the ways that are necessary for us to thrive when we're LGBTQ people," referring to the thousands of LGBTQ+ teens and young adults who are kicked out of their homes because of their identity.
To cap it all off, Porter brought some accessories to help Colbert elevate his own look, including bedazzled glasses and a zebra-striped hat.
