News Birnam Wood Comes to Harlem, as Macbeth Begins Off-Broadway, July 9 Ty Jones, who won an Obie Award this year for his work in the Classical Theater of Harlem's The Blacks, will return to the company July 9 to play the usurping Scottish king in Shakespeare's Macbeth.

CTH's Alfred Preisser will direct the production, which will be staged outdoors at the CTH Courtyard Theater (645 St. Nicholas Avenue near 141st Street). Opening night is July 11. The young company has tackled Shakespeare before; in fact, it has done Macbeth. The "Scottish Play" was CTH's inaugural production in 1999. Also in the cast will be April Thompson and Off-Broadway veteran Arthur French. The troupe, known for its speedy way with a classic, will bring Macbeth in at about 90 minutes.

Earlier this year, The Blacks became the first CTH show to transfer commercially. The mounting was honored with four Obie Awards and is expected to reopen Off-Broadway sometime this fall.

Macbeth runs through Aug. 3. Tickets are $19 and $15 for groups of ten or more. Call Smarttix at (212) 868-4444; online at www.smarttix.com.
