David Birney will star as the first man on Earth in his own stage adaptation of Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve Aug. 16-18 at Hartford Stage Company in Hartford, CT. Harriet Hall will play Eve in the show, which will be presented as part of the "Mark Twain Days" celebration in Hartford, where the author spent a significant part of his career.

Birney starred on TV in "Bridget Loves Bernie," "The Adams Chronicles" and "Live Shot." His play was produced previously at Dartmouth University and at the Plaza Theatre in Dallas, where it was taped for PBS' "American Playhouse" series.

The story was adapted to the stage previously as the first of three one-act musicals titled The Apple Tree in the mid 1960s.
