The title — a tribute to the song penned by late BMI Pulitzer Prize and Tony winning composer-lyricist Ed Kleban — describes a weekly podcast of never-before-heard music created by members of the BMI Lehman Engel Workshop. The 20-episode series will air Friday afternoons at 4 PM on BMI's website (www.bmi.com/fridayatfour).
Brian d'Arcy James (Titanic, Sweet Smell of Success) kicks off the premiere podcast of the series with Patrick Cook and Rick Freyer’s song, "Gonna Spend the Whole Day Fishin."
Composer, lyricist and Broadway performer Jeff Blumenkrantz hosts Fridays at Four, which promises a line-up of future podcasts featuring Broadway talents Michael Arden, Liz Callaway, Will Chase, Victoria Clark, Jenn Colella, Gavin Creel, Erin Dilly, Christine Ebersole, Mary Beth Peil, Craig Fols, Hunter Foster, Ann Harada, Neil Patrick Harris, Cheyenne Jackson, Lauren Kennedy, Natalie Weiss and Sally Wilfert.
The works presented will showcase material from new BMI Workshop members as well as such alumni as Maury Yeston (Nine, Titanic), Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party, Hello Again), Bobby Lopez (Avenue Q), and Amanda Green and Tom Kitt (High Fidelity).
The weekly podcasts will include performances and interviews with the songwriters and Broadway performers. BMI has also announced it will publish a songbook of the 20 songs that are slated to be featured in the Fridays at Four podcast series.
