HBO has ordered a full season of Martin Scorsese's Atlantic City-set drama "Boardwalk Empire," which is aiming for a 2010 premiere on the cable network.

Variety reports that 11 episodes have been ordered. The series is based on "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City" by Nelson Johnson. "Sopranos" writer Terrence Winter authored the pilot. The cast includes Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Shea Whigham, Dabney Coleman and Stephen Graham. Paul Sparks and Michael Stuhlbarg also appeared in the pilot.

Scorsese produces the series that centers on the 1920's hey day of Atlantic City and a string of gangsters who run the town. Filming will begin in New York City this fall.
