Venice's Teatro La Fenice was evacuated yesterday after employees found a suspicious package in the building, the press agency Adnkronos reports.

The employees immediately notified law enforcement officials, but the package, inspected by a robot, turned out to hold nothing more than a box holding an old record player.

According to some sources, Venice is one of the cities considered most at risk for terrorist attacks.

Last fall, after a decade-long reconstruction made necessary by a fire, La Fenice reopened with performances of La traviata. It had officially reopened a year earlier, but the work was not completed.
