Born to Sing!, the new R&B/gospel musical at off-Broadway's Union Square Theatre, has announced that $5 from every ticket sold for performances now through Sept. 8 will benefit a fund established by the National Council of Churches to help rebuild the burned churches, mostly of African-American congregations, throughout the United States. Born to Sing! follows fictional superstar Doris Winter as she auditions a new choir to embark on a world tour. The show, a sequel of sorts from the creators of Mama, I Want to Sing, introduces 15 new R&B, pop, and gospel songs. The book and lyrics are by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro, and the music is composed by W. Naylor.

The show, which is now in previews, opens Thursday, Aug. 8. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at 212-307-4100 or the Union Square Box Office at 212-505-0700. Tickets are $35-$15, with half-price tickets available for children under 12.
