News Boston Pops Offers Tribute to Jerry Herman May 10 and 12; Concert to Be Televised A tribute to Tony-winning composer Jerry Herman will be among the offerings this May as the Boston Pops begins its latest season under the direction of conductor Keith Lockhart.

On May 10 and 12, Ragtime’s Marin Mazzie and Guys and Dolls’ Faith Prince will sing the tunes of the composer of Mame, La Cage aux Folles, Mack and Mabel and Hello, Dolly! David Thompson will write the tribute, which will feature direction by Scott Ellis, choreography by Tara Young and musical preparation by David Chase. The concert will be taped for a future television broadcast, part of PBS’ annual “Evening at Pops” series. Other May Pops concerts of interest to theatre fans include the May 18 evening, entitled “The Best of Broadway.” The 7:30 PM concert will feature students of the Boston Conservatory’s musical theatre division under the direction of Neil Donohoe. And, the May 19 concert will boast the vocal talents of Les Misérables’ Mark McVey with Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano. The May 19 concert will also be taped for television broadcast, as will the May 22 evening featuring both vocalist Peter Cincotti (with David Fink on bass) and a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong (led by Patti Austin and Byron Stripling).
