News Boston Pops Season to Include a Sondheim Celebration The upcoming spring season of the Boston Pops will feature three evenings devoted to the works of Tony Award-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim.

A Tribute to Stephen Sondheim, which celebrates the composer's 75th birthday, will be presented June 16, 17 and 18 at 8 PM. Keith Lockhart will conduct the Boston Pops Orchestra, and an all-star cast — who will interpret songs by the composer of Passion, Bounce, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, Follies, A Little Night Music, The Frogs, Merrily We Roll Along and Sweeney Todd — is promised.

The Pops' spring season, which commences May 11 at 6:30 PM, will also feature several other evenings of interest to theatre fans. Broadway Legends — with guest conductor Bruce Hangen — will be offered May 15 and 22 at 3 PM. Celebrating a century of performers and performances from The Great White Way, the afternoon concerts will feature rising stars from the Boston Conservatory's Theatre Division.

Marvin Hamlisch returns June 29 and 30 at 8 PM for encore performances of Mahvelous Mahvin, which features the works of the Tony-winning composer. Expect to hear tunes from A Chorus Line and The Goodbye Girl as well as the award-winning theme from "The Way We Were."

Singers have yet to be announced for the spring season, although the Boston Pops always attracts several Broadway performers. Recent artists include Audra McDonald, Lillias White, Rebecca Luker, Mary Testa, Barbara Cook, Jason Danieley, Marin Mazzie and Faith Prince.
