Classic Arts News Boston's Equinox Music Festival Shuts Down The Equinox Music Festival, scheduled to open in Boston today, was canceled this week after the three-year-old jazz series declared bankruptcy.
A statement on the festival's web site says simply that the event has been canceled "due to circumstances beyond our control." But according to a report in the Boston Globe yesterday, several corporate sponsors recently withdrew their support of the festival. "The losses we've suffered are pretty staggering," founder J. Thomas Duffy told the Globe in an email.

This year's festival was scheduled to run through November 27, starting with a performance by Donal Fox and including appearances by vocalist Madeleine Peyroux and the Dave Burrell-Andrew Cyrille duo. In previous years, the festival has presented pianist Cecil Taylor, saxophonist David Murray, and composer-percussionist Anthony Brown.
