News Boston's SpeakEasy Gets Theater District and Caroline, or Change in New Season Richard Kramer's play Theater District — starring "NYPD Blue" actor Bill Brochtrup — will open Boston's SpeakEasy Stage Company new season, which also features the New England premiere of Caroline, or Change presented in association with the North Shore Music Theatre.

SpeakEasy’s fifteenth anniversary season will be presented in the Nancy and Edward Roberts Studio Theatre in the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.

The 2005-2006 lineup (subject to change) follows:

  • Theater District by Richard Kramer (Sept. 30-Oct. 29)
    Bill Brochtrup — who played Police Administrative Assistant John Irwin on "NYPD Blue" — stars in the East Coast premiere of the new work about an actor-turned restaurateur whose partner's 16-year-old son moves in with them and threatens to tear them apart.
  • Kiss of the Spider Woman by Terrence McNally (book), John Kander (music) and Fred Ebb (lyrics) (Nov. 4-Dec. 3)
    The 1993 Tony Award-winning best musical, which sets to music the tale of two men, a window dresser and a revolutionary, who become unlikely allies in a Latin American prison.

  • Five By Tenn by Tennessee Williams (Jan. 27-Feb. 25, 2006)
    A collection of five recently discovered one-act plays by the celebrated American playwright in which he explores many of the themes later seen in A Streetcar Named Desire and The Glass Menagerie.
  • Brooklyn Boy by Donald Margulies (March 3-April 1, 2006)
    The New England premiere of the comedy, which finds an aspiring novelist whose career takes off following his latest semi-autobiographical novel as his personal life begins to unravel.
  • Caroline, or Change by Tony Kushner (book, lyrics) and Jeanine Tesori (music) (May 5-June 3, 2006)
    North Shore Music Theatre co-presents the 2004 Tony Award-nominated musical that follows the story of a black maid working for a Southern Jewish family .
