The twice-extended C-Cup from L.A. Weekly Award nominee Doug Field ends its world premiere run at the Dorie Theatre at the Complex June 2. The comedy, a look at surviving breast cancer in a tiny Texas town, began performances at the Dorie Theatre at the Complex March 1 and extended past its April 7 close to May 5 and then on to June 2.
At the start of C-Cup, Jana Banson is very unhappy; her husband is sleeping with the neighborhood slut, the fat daughter she's never been able to love is getting married (the wedding planner is the aforementioned woman of easy virtue) and yes, she's very aware of the fact that she only has one breast. Her only consolation is her prize-winning rose garden. Still, by the end of the play, Jana manages to win her husband back and learns to accept her child, who has found everything she needs in her Chicano finance Alejandro.
Alana Stewart, former supermodel and celebrity spouse (she's been hitched to George Hamilton and Rod Stewart), plays Sally Ann, the slut. Julie Sanford plays Jana with Don Paul as her husband Sam and Jennifer Manley as Sarah Beth.
C Cup was designed by Paule Doss (costumes), Burris Jackes (sets) and Frank McKown (lighting).
Tickets are $15. The Dorie Theatre at the Complex is located at 6476 Santa Monica Boulevard. For reservations, call (323) 957-9009. — By Christine Ehren
