Brazilian actress and performance artist Denise Stoklos brings sculptor Louise Bourgeois to New York City's La MaMa E.T.C. May 18-28 in the world premiere production of her Louise Bourgeois: I Do, I Undo, I Redo. Known for her "Essential Theatre" style of performance, Stoklos has been named the best actress in Brazil nine times, and her ten solo plays, all of which have had their American debuts at La MaMa, have been performed in 31 countries. Her first American hit was 1987's Mary Stuart; her last production at La MaMa was 1998's Civil Disobedience: morning is when I am awake and there is an aurora.

Stoklos' Louise Bourgeois opens in New York days after Bourgeois' installation at the Turbine Hall of the Tate Gallery of Modern Art debuts in London. The painter, writer, sculptor and performer's work is often described as obsessed with her childhood in France, even as she faces and discusses the issues of sex, identity, love, alienation and death. Bourgeois has lived in New York City's Chelsea since 1938.

After La MaMa, Louise Bourgeois will travel to Brazil (Londrina International Arts Festival, June 6-8), Norway (Ponsgrunn Theater Festival, June 14-15) and Rio de Janiero (SESC Copacabana, rest of June).

Tickets are $20-$15. La MaMa E.T.C. is located at 74A East Fourth Street. For reservations, call (212) 475-7710.
