"Inspired by accounts that Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s President, sought treatment from a white psychiatrist," press notes state, the play was originally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon in 2005 and won the John Whiting Award in 2006. Directed by David Shookhoff, the production stars Ezra Barnes (Andrew Peric), Yale graduates Michael Rogers (Robert Mugabe) and Rosalyn Coleman (Grace Mugabe) and Che Ayende as the family’s loyal bodyguard (Gabriel).

Actors Fund Special Performances, according to the Fund, "have been thrilling audiences for more than 80 years with an electric energy unlike any other night of theatre! What makes a Special Performance so 'special'? Each year, Broadway companies, in New York and on the road, generously give their time and talent by adding a performance to already rigorous schedules to benefit The Actors Fund."
