The Oct. 4 benefit honors Bring It On and In the Heights writer Miranda's father, Luis A. Miranda Jr. He founded the school in 2000 and served as the board chair until 2011. Located in East Harlem's El Barrio, the Amber Charter School serves an overwhelmingly low-income student body from Harlem and the Bronx.

"I am so proud of my dad, and of all that Amber Charter has been achieving in the community for over a decade," Lin-Manuel Miranda said in a statement. "I'm inspired by the central role that arts programming plays in the school's curriculum. My dad has been a dedicated advocate for the school for so long, and Amber Charter's success is a testament not only to him, but to the rest of the board, the faculty, the students and their families. It's a great thing to celebrate."

Benefit guests will attend a pre-show reception at Trattoria Dopo Teatro, followed by a performance of Bring It On: The Musical at the St. James Theatre. Funds raised will benefit students at the school.

Songwriters Miranda, Kitt, Green and book writer Whitty, as well as Tony-winning Bring It On musical director Alex Lacamoire will be part of the benefit evening.

Bring It On, which centers on rival cheerleading teams, began Broadway previews July 12 at the St. James Theatre and officially opened Aug. 1. It extended its run through Jan. 20, 2013. A cast album was just released. Tickets to the benefit are $500. Visit amberonbroadway.ezregister.com.
