News Bring It On, Debbie Allen, Judith Ivey Among 2010-11 Suzi Bass Award Nominees Nominees for the 2010-11 Suzi Bass Awards, which celebrate excellence in metro Atlanta’s professional theatre community, were announced Sept. 12 at Fabrefaction Theatre.

The 7th Annual Suzi Awards Ceremony will be held Nov. 7 at the Conant Center of Oglethorpe University. Winners are chosen based on a combination of volunteer judging panels and Suzi Members.

In addition to the Suzi Performance Awards, the organization will present the Gene-Gabriel Moore Playwriting Award to an Atlanta playwright, the Spirit of Suzi Award, the Volunteer of the Year Award, and the publicly voted Audience Choice Award for Outstanding Season.

Leading the list with 30 nominations is Alliance Theatre, followed by Atlanta Lyric Theatre with 21 nominations and Horizon Theatre with 19 nominations.

Among the nominees, Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler’s production of Bring It On: the Musical pulled in eight nominations for Alliance, including Production-Musical and World Premiere; Tony nominee Debbie Allen received a nod for her choreography of Twist, the Atlanta incarnation of a new musical version of Dickens’ Oliver Twist; two-time Tony winner Judith Ivey received a directing nomination for the Alliance production of Carapace; and the Center for Puppetry Arts was named the recipient of the 2011 Spirit of Suzi Award.
