Named as the 1997 Play of the Year by the British newspaper The Independent, Blue Hearts a play by Caryl Churchill, will have presentations on May 19-20, 1998 at The Sergio Cardoso Theatre in Sao Paulo.
The Out of Joint Theatre Company, one of the latest upcoming companies of modern British Theatre, will perform Blue Hearts which will be directed by Max Stafford Clark, the director of the company. This is the sixth collaboration between Churchill and Clark.
"When you have to direct a play of a new author you need to deeply understand his language and transmit his ideas to the stage," Clark explained.
Blue Hearts reunites two Churchill scripts which deal with the lack of human communication in situations of union and separation. In Heart´s Desire, father and mother are waiting anxiously for their daughter´s return from Australia where she has been living for a long period. InBlue Kettle, a rascal cheats an old lady, pretending to be the son whom she had given up to adoption.
