Maureen Hunter's "incredibly erotic and magical new play," Atlantis, opens Nov. 28 at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria, BC. Directed by Glynis Leyshon,Atlantis stars Seana McKenna and Miles Potter.
In Atlantis, two people are consumed by unquenchable desire.
Middle-aged Canadian Ben abandons all he knows to lose himself on the Island of Santorini. There he meets Mircea, a Greek virgin and the island's personal saint. The two cast aside language to become lovers "unleashing a passion and hunger that outrages the tiny village."
Atlantis premiered at the Manitoba Theatre Center in February 1996. Other plays by author Maureen Hunter include Transit Of Venus, which was staged by London's Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as at Canadian theatres.
Carole Klemm designed the sets and costumes for Atlantis; Bruce Halliday fashioned the show's lighting. Atlantis runs at the Belfry through Dec. 15. For tickets (C$12-$20) and information call (604) 385-6185.
