News   Broadway Barks and Broadway Flea Market Set Dates

Dates for two upcoming Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS fund-raisers have been announced.

Broadway Barks 13 — the annual adopt-a-thon created by pals Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore to find homes for pets from city animal shelters — will be held July 9 from 3:30-6:30 PM in Shubert Alley. Proceeds from the auction and other donations received during the day will benefit the shelters and organizations attending Broadway Barks 13. Presentation of pets and citywide shelters will begin at 5:30 PM.

The 25th Annual Broadway Flea Market and Grand Auction is set for Sept. 25. The day-long event is scheduled to begin at 10 AM ET and continue to 7 PM along West 44th Street. The outdoor fundraiser in Shubert Alley raises money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and features a host of theatrical memorabilia donated by the theatrical community. The day-long event also boasts a Celebrity Table, where theatre fans can purchase autographs by or photos with their favorite stars from Broadway, Off-Broadway and television serials. The well-attended event also includes a Grand Auction, where "singular items and opportunities such as walk-on roles in Broadway shows, television programs and films" are auctioned to the highest bidder.

As previously reported, Broadway Bares XXI, which is entitled Masterpiece, will be presented June 19 at 9:30 PM and midnight at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan. Broadway Bares Fire Island is scheduled for June 4 at 7 PM and 9 PM at the Brandon Fradd Theatre at Whyte Hall.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the nation's largest industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. Since its founding in 1988 the organization has distributed over $170 million for services for people with AIDS, HIV or HIV-related illnesses.
