News Broadway Battle of the Bands to Play Zipper Factory May 18 Broadway Battle of the Bands — a presentation of the New York Musical Theatre Festival — will be staged May 18 at Off-Broadway's Zipper Factory.

Part of NYMF's 2007 Spring Concert Series, the 10 PM concert will feature a competition between four rock-n-roll bands that all include Broadway performers. The four bands are Old Springs Pike (with Spring Awakening's John Gallagher, Jr.), the Tom Kitt Band (Kitt was the composer of the recent Broadway musical High Fidelity), The Petersons (which features several theatre actors) and Tastiskank (with Wicked's Kate Reinders and Beauty and the Beast's Sarah Litzsinger).

Old Springs Pike, according to press notes, "blends the cricket chirp of a suburban slow-fade with the subway scream of metropolitan mayhem." In addition to Gallagher, the band also features James Smith, James Cleare and Heather Robb.

The Tom Kitt Band includes Kitt on piano and lead vocals, Damien Bassman on drums, Dan Grennes on bass and Michael Aarons on guitar.

Adam Stein, Keira Naughton, Pete Simpson, Matt Saldivar and Evan Robertson comprise The Petersons, a band The New York Times described as "a hipster theater mock-rock group with a devoted following."

Kate Reinders and Sarah Litzsinger created TastiSkank, which is billed as "the rockin' love child of Tenacious D and the Indigo Girls." The Zipper Factory is located in Manhattan at 336 West 37th Street. Tickets, priced $15, are available by calling (212) 352-3101 or by visiting www.nymf.org.
