"Atlantic City Band Girl," from Ragtime

Original Costume Designer: Santo Loquasto (Tony Award Nominee)
Bear Costume Designer: Joanna Cayot, with the assistance of Rodney Gordon (hat), Mitchell Bloom (original sketches), Charles Cayot (Boardwalk designer)
Dedicated to the memory of Ron Nichols
Signed by Marin Mazzie and Brian Stokes Mitchell

Re-created from the Atlantic City Boardwalk scene (and standing on a replicated piece of the Boardwalk -- carvings and initials included!), the Band Girl Bear wears a red wool suit-coat with peplum, brass buttons, and blue suede-cloth epaulettes, sleeve cuffs and jacket-belt (with antique brass closure). All jacket-front and sleeve designs are hand-painted with blue-gloss fabric paint. The matching red wool circle-skirt carries the hand-painted notes and designs as well. Beneath the suit, white 100% Swiss-cotton is the fabric for a blouse and a sumptuously ruffled slip trimmed in red ribbon and white lace. Her handmade gold-buttoned boots are hand-painted to match the original. Dark hair, styled in ringlets, peaks out from under her matching red and blue hat. An inserted armature allows her to raise a brass horn to her lips and blow out the music that sent "a century spinning" -- ragtime!
