Kids rule Broadway the night of March 12!

The sixth annual "Kids' Night on Broadway" is being sponsored by Toys "R" Us, and the new Times Square branch of the famous children's toy store will host a special interactive experience from 3:30-6 PM. In February, free Broadway-show tickets were offered for children whose adult companions bought full-price tickets.

Noises Off's Peter Gallagher will host the Toys "R" Us event, which will include musical performances from the casts of Rent, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and The Full Monty. Kids will also be able to try theatrical make-up, don theatre costumes, sing Broadway tunes and venture down autograph alley. The target audience ranges in age from 6-18 years.

Conceived in 1996 by the Theatre Development Fund (TDF) and the League of American Theatres and Producers, "Kids' Night on Broadway" has since helped introduce more than 150,000 young people to the "magic of live theatre" by making it "accessible to a new generation of theatregoers." The program's participating shows are in 20 major national markets. This year's "Kids' Night" shows in New York — with some curtains going up early (it is a school night) — include Cabaret, Chicago, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, Metamorphoses, Noises Off, Oklahoma!, One Mo' Time, Proof, Rent, Stomp, The Crucible, The Full Monty, The Phantom of the Opera and The Tale of the Allergist's Wife.

This is an especially exciting year for "Kids' Night on Broadway," since one of the children who had attended a previous "Kids' Night" was inspired to become an actress. The young performer, Laura Breckenridge, is currently making her Broadway debut in the hit revival of Arthur Miller's The Crucible at the Virginia Theatre. Tickets to this year's event were on sale from Feb. 1 through Feb. 17. For more information check out the Kids' Night website at kidsnightonbroadway.com.
