Film & TV News Broadway-Bound Nathan Lane Joins Cast of New Season of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful The Tony-winning actor will play a veteran officer in the LAPD in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

Tony and Emmy winner Nathan Lane, who will return to Broadway later this season in Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, has joined the cast of Showtime's Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, the next chapter of the Penny Dreadful saga.

The stage and screen star will play Lewis Michener, a veteran officer in the LAPD who is ruthless in pursuit of his goals. Lewis becomes the partner and mentor of Tiago Vega, played by Daniel Zovatto. The series also stars Natalie Dormer, Jessica Garza, and Johnathan Nieves.

Tony winner John Logan, the creator, writer, and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated series, continues in those same roles. Michael Aguilar also serves as executive producer.

Production on the new season is expected to begin later this year.

Lane is a three-time Tony Award winner for his performances in Angels in America, The Producers, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He also received Tony nominations for The Front Page, The Nance, and Guys and Dolls.
