With 32 shows on the boards this past week, one more than last week, and fairly solid business across the spectrum, Broadway collected $25,659,018 in ticket sales, more than $3 million more than last week, and $6 million more that this week last season. The season-to-date number was $540,903,639, an increase of more than $32 million above the tally last season to date — this, despite the fact that attendance is slightly down, and 2013-14 has enjoyed 36 fewer playing weeks. The popular, now-in-previews, Billy Crystal one-man show 700 Sundays helped to boost that amount, brining in 103% of its possible take (even while played to houses only 87% full). The top ticket price of $149.29 (better than Betrayal, even) certainly helped push that figure over the 100% peak.

Also performing well in previews is the Mark Rylance double bill of Twelfth Night and Richard III, which played to 98% capacity and raked in 57% of possible ticket sales. The two shows opened Nov. 10 to rave reviews, which will doubtless next week send the latter number climbing. It will also likely goose the top ticket price, which this week stood at $59.52.

The musical Big Fish, which announced it would shutter in December, continued to struggle at the Neil Simon Theatre, running to 67%-full auditoriums and taking in less than 44% of its till. Remarkably, that latter tally is lower than the one posted by the humble musical First Date, which also announced its closing date of Jan. 5, 2014. Commanding the smallest houses on Broadway, meanwhile, was Romeo and Juliet, where overall houses fell far short of the 50% mark.
