News Broadway Box-Office Analysis, Sept. 14-20: Absence Makes Fans of Gentleman's Guide Grow Fonder The fall is officially here and that means more new shows are beginning to arrive on Broadway.

The new revival of Harold Pinter’s Old Times, starring Clive Owen and Eve Best, began at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre and put in five previews. Houses were at 86% capacity and the box office was 59% of the gross with a weekly take of $233,302.

Another revival, Sam Shepard’s Fool for Love, settled in at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Friedman Theatre. Seats were 82% filled, and box office was 36% of the gross, with monies collected totaling $177,278 over six previews.

The new Deaf West revival of the musical Spring Awakening stayed about even at the Brooks Atkinson, performing before 82% capacity houses over eight previews. The box office take was $473,074, about $25,000 more than the previous week.

Well into its run at the Sondheim Theatre, the Carole King musical Beautiful continues to pack them in. Houses were full last week, and box office was 84% of the possible. The take was $1,022,113, roughly $20,000 north of the previous seven-day period.

The news that the Tony winner A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder would close soon seems to have caught people’s attention. The box office collections at the musical were up $66,599 last week, bringing capacity up to 97% — a goodly rise from the previous week’s 85%. The same could be said of the play Hand to God, which is also on its way out. This past week, the struggling production took in $53,863 more than the week previous. Audiences were at 70%, up from 58%.

The best jump at the box office belonged to Something Rotten!, with $140,956. Right behind it was An American in Paris with $140,411. The number of shows on the boards stood steady at 24. Last year at this time, there were 29.
