Ars Nova has announced the lineup for its winter gala, Nova Ball Remix, on December 5 at Capitale (130 Bowery, New York). Despite an earlier dispute between the Off-Broadway company and the Broadway producers of Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812, the cast, including Josh Groban and Denée Benton, will perform during the evening.
As previously reported on Playbill.com, after weeks of negotiations, Ars Nova filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court earlier this month demanding that commercial producers Howard and Janet Kagan adhere to a contract that requires them to bill the show as “The Ars Nova production of . . .” in the Playbill. Originating producer Ars Nova developed the show and hosted its first production, but when the show started previews on Broadway, billing materials omitted the words “production of” and listed Ars Nova last among 38 other above-the-title producers in the Playbill. The contract dispute is now settled.
Nova Ball Remix will celebrate The Great Comet of 1812 and the Broadway debuts of writer and composer Dave Malloy and director Rachel Chavkin. The evening will feature performances by Groban, Benton and the Broadway cast of the musical, along with Heather Christian, Joe Iconis, Anais Mitchel, Sky Pony, and more.
Nova Ball Remix will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP reception followed by dinner, a live auction, and performances. Proceeds from the evening will support Ars Novaʼs artistic development initiatives and world-premiere programming. The company, which has garnered a reputation for producing innovative new works, recently announced a host of new shows as part of its 2017-18 season. The slate will feature a world-premiere new play with songs by Rachel Bonds and The Bengsons, a new immersive musical piece conceived by Woodshed Collective and Jason Kim, and another world-premiere musical by The Bengsons and Sarah Gancher.
Individual tickets for Nova Ball Remix begin at $1,000 and tables of ten begin at $10,000, and can be purchased online at arsnovanyc.com, by phone at (212) 489-9800, ext. 131 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
