Dossett is making his Chicago debut as slick lawyer Billy Flynn for a 10-week engagement through March 29. He succeeds John O'Hurley, who played his final performance Jan. 18 before rejoining the company of the current Chicago national tour.
As previously reported, Charlotte D'Amboise will once again play merry murderess Roxie Hart for 14 performances beginning Jan. 22. The actress has played Roxie more than any other actress in the history of the production — more than 2,500 performances on Broadway and the road combined to date. D'Amboise takes over for Bianca Marroquin, who played her final performance Jan. 11. (Longtime Chicago veteran Dylis Croman stars as Roxie through Jan. 20.)
The Broadway company also stars Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly (through Feb. 1), Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron "Mama" Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
In related news, on Feb. 2, Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles and Carly Hughes will join the cast as Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, respectively.
Chicago has set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Tony Award winner William Ivey Long, lighting design by Tony Award winner Ken Billington, sound design by Scott Lehrer, musical supervision by Rob Fisher and musical direction by Leslie Stifelman. The revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb's Chicago began life as one of the three annual Encores! presentations offered by City Center. The musical opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in November 1996 where it remained through February 1997. The musical transferred to the Shubert Theatre on Feb. 11, 1997, and played that house through Jan. 26, 2003. The revival reopened at the Ambassador Theatre, its current home, on Jan. 29, 2003.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
