Some of Broadway's big vocal talents will join orchestras in Sweden and England in early September to sing American show tunes in "Broadway: The Concert," conducted by Martin Yates.
Stephen Bogardus (Falsettos, High Society), Merwin Foard (the revival of 1776, the upcoming Kiss Me, Kate), Debbie Shapiro Gravitte (Jerome Robbins' Broadway), Rebecca Luker (The Sound of Music, The Secret Garden) and Karen Mason (Sunset Boulevard, Jerome Robbins' Broadway) will sing work by American theatre songwriters.
The brief schedule includes appearances with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in Stockholm, Sweden, Sept. 1-4; the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in Birmingham, England Sept. 5; and the National Symphony Orchestra and Royal Choral Society at Barbican Hall in London, Sept. 8.
Among songs sung by members of the quintet are "At the Ballet," "Big Spender," "Maybe This Time," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," "Broadway Baby," "You're Nothing Without Me," "Stranger in Paradise," "Till There Was You," and, in an unlikely visual, selections from Hair with performers in ball gowns and tuxes.
