News Broadway USA & Parade's Patricia Birch Present Musical Readings Feb. 8-April 12 Broadway USA will present three new musicals as part of a stage reading series to take place Feb. 8 through Apr. 12, 1999. The trio of works -- Actor, Lawyer, Indian Chief , Chang & Eng and Democracy -- were selected by director and choreographer Patricia Birch, who is serving as Broadway USA's guest artistic director. Birch did the choreography for Parade , currently running Lincoln Center Theatre's Broadway Beaumont space.

The trio of works -- Actor, Lawyer, Indian Chief , Chang & Eng and Democracy -- were selected by director and choreographer Patricia Birch, who is serving as Broadway USA's guest artistic director. Birch did the choreography for Parade , currently running Lincoln Center Theatre's Broadway Beaumont space.

Actor, Lawyer, Indian Chief boasts a book by David Bell and a score by Craig Carnelia. The musical is about Red Rock Brody, an aging television cowboy hero, and a lawyer who used to watch him as a child. Together they team up to battle corporate big wigs. It will be performed Feb. 8 & 15, 1999.

Did you like Side Show ? Well, you may want to check out Chang & Eng , the story of Siamese twins who settle down with two sisters from Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Burton Cohen wrote the book, Stephen Hoffman composed the music and Mark Campbell penned the lyrics. The musical will be presented Mar. 8 & 15, 1999.

Last on the line-up is Democracy , by librettist Joe Sutton and composer and lyricist Lewis Flinn. Set in the 1940, it tells the story of a Lyndon Johnson-like politician named Arlen Seawright who has ambitions to become president. Performances are Apr. 5 & 12.
