David Schweizer will direct the comedy, which is scheduled to run Feb. 21-March 22 at the company's Bagley Wright Theatre. Opening night will be Feb. 27.
Broadway actor Rocco Sisto (Amadeus, A Month in the Country and The Comedy of Errors) will star in the title role opposite Alice Playten (Gypsy, Sweet Henry and Caroline, or Change) with Seattle Rep veterans Ian Bell (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Julie Briskman (The Beard of Avon, Spinning into Butter), Bradford Farwell (Noises Off, The Great Gatsby), David Pichette (Nixon's Nixon, Over the Moon) and Brandon Whitehead (Twelfe Night).
Andrew William Smith (A Streetcar Named Desire - Arena Stage) and Zoë Winters (Othello - Firebird) round out the ensemble.
Billed as a "zany satire on the world of medicine," The Imaginary Invalid follows a "swirl of romantic triangles, double entendres and mistaken identities," according to show notes. "To quell his growing pile of medical bills, Monsieur Argan, a chronic hypochondriac, will go to any length to marry his daughter off to a doctor. Of course, his daughter has other ideas."
Director Schweizer returns to Seattle Rep where he previously staged Aliens in America and Sugar Plum Fairy. His Off-Broadway credits include Horizon, Getting Home, Songs from An Unmade Bed, White Chocolate, Wintertime, Cologne, And God Created Great Whales, Bad Sex with Bud Kemp, All for You, Booth, You Could Be Home Now, Kingfish, The Investigation of the Murder in El Salvador and Gogol. The Imaginary Invalid design team includes Riccardo Hernandez (scenic), David Woolard (costume), Alexander V. Nichols (lighting) and Matt Starritt (sound). Eyvind Kang is composer. Wade Madsen serves as choreographer. Michael John Egan is the stage manager.
The Rep currently presents Robert Schenkkan's By the Waters of Babylon (Jan. 31-March 2) and continues with Kevin Kling's how? how? why? why? (March 13-April 19) and The Cure at Troy by Seamus Heaney (April 3-May 3).
